The 27th Submarine Flotilla , or 27th U-Flotilla for short , was a military association of the German Navy during World War II .

The flotilla was formed in January 1940 as a submarine front training flotilla, responsible for the tactical training of the submarine crews. It was published in July 1940 in “27. U-Flotilla "renamed. From 1941 she was also responsible for the training group for Italian submarines. The base of the flotilla was Gotenhafen until its dissolution in March 1945 . From May 1940 the escort ship of the flotilla was the Waldemar Kophamel ; the ship was sunk on December 18, 1944 in Gotenhafen by British aerial bombs .

Apart from the test and school boat U D4, the flotilla had no submarines of its own , but these came from the individual flotillas for training in Gotenhafen. In the 27th Flotilla, the crews of newly commissioned submarines received their tactical training after completing their shooting training. In addition to further combat-like training such. B. alarm diving or boat operation in the event of a total failure of the lighting, convoy battles lasting 8 to 15 days were simulated in the central Baltic Sea between Bornholm and Memel , with up to ten submarines attacking a convoy secured by surface forces and aircraft .
