5th submarine flotilla
The 5th U-Flottille (5th submarine flotilla ) was a military association of the German Navy . Initially founded as the Emsmann Front Flotilla, from 1941 this flotilla stationed in Kiel was purely a training flotilla.
history
The 5th U-Flotilla was set up on December 1, 1938 in Kiel as a front flotilla under the name Flottille Emsmann . This name went back to the submarine commander Hans Joachim Emsmann. The Emsmann flotilla merged with the newly founded 1st U-Flotilla at the beginning of January 1940 in the course of the reorganization of the German submarine weapon . In June 1941 the 5th U-Flotilla was re-established as a training flotilla . In the course of its existence, this association was subordinate to a total of 340 submarines - mainly as training boats. The 5th U-Flotilla was probably nominally the strongest of the German U-Flotilla.

- June 16, 1941 to May 8, 1945 Corvette Captain Karl-Heinz Moehle
