The 8th U-Flotilla (8th submarine flotilla) was a military unit in the former German Navy during World War II .

history

The flotilla was founded in Königsberg in October 1941 under the command of Lieutenant Georg-Wilhelm Schulz as a training flotilla . From February 1942 she was stationed in Danzig. She trained the Danzig, some Bremen, some Hamburg and Kiel boats. The first submarine assigned to the flotilla was U 88 under Kapitänleutnant Heino Bohrmann on October 15, 1941. This flotilla mainly included type VII submarines , but also type IX B , type XVII , type XXI and des Type XXIII were subordinate to the flotilla as front or training boats. The boats of the 8th U-Flotilla carried out operations in the Baltic Sea between June 1944 and spring 1945. The flotilla was disbanded when the Red Army approached in February 1945.
