U 3519 was a German submarine of submarine class XXI that should have been used by the German navy during World War II . It was planned for use in the Atlantic .

These boats were not introduced by the Kriegsmarine until late in 1944. Too late to have a decisive influence on the battle of the Atlantic .

In March 1945, exercises on submarines had become rare occurrences due to a lack of fuel and the high effectiveness of the Allied attacks on submarines under construction. The type XXI boats, which continued their training trips in the Baltic Sea, were an exception. To prevent this, the Royal Air Force dropped thousands of sea mines in German territorial waters in the hope of being able to sink as many submarines as possible when leaving or calling at the ports in shallow waters.

On March 2, 1945, U 3519 ran north of Warnemünde at the coordinates 54 ° 11 '  N , 12 ° 5'  E on a mine and sank. 75 crew members were killed and three men were saved. The tug Rixhöft , hurrying to help , hit a mine and also sank.
