11th submarine flotilla
The 11th Submarine Flotilla , or 11th U-Flotilla for short , was a military association of the former German Navy during World War II .
history
The flotilla was formed on May 15, 1942 in Bergen under the command of frigate captain Hans Cohausz . The area of operation was mainly the North Sea and the North Sea . The boats of the flotilla mainly attacked the northern convoys that were traveling from Great Britain and the United States to the northern Soviet ports of Murmansk and Arkhangelsk .
Until September 1944, the flotilla consisted largely of type VII boats . The first type XXI , U 2511 , was also used in the 11th U-Flotilla .
Many flotillas incorporated their boats into the 11th U-Flotilla before they were disbanded. As a result, it had to be reorganized in September 1944. The 11th submarine flotilla was one of the few flotillas that existed until 1945. The story of this flotilla finally ended with Germany's surrender in May 1945.
