Scott is the name of a Scottish clan that originated in the Scottish Borders area .

history

The first historically guaranteed Scottish Scott was Uchtredus filius Scoti , who lived in the 12th century and was the ancestor of the Scotts of Buccleuch and Balwearie . By the end of the 15th century, the clan had become one of the most powerful families from the border area.

The best-known member of the clan is likely to have been the writer Sir Walter Scott , a national hero of Scotland, who immortalized Scottish history in historical novels and also introduced tourism to his home country by organizing, among other things, the first visit by a British monarch since Charles II when George IV came to Edinburgh in 1822 .

The leadership position of a clan chief went through the marriage of Anne Scott, 4th Countess of Buccleuch, with James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth , a illegitimate son of the Scottish and English King Charles II , who then took on the family name of his wife the Dukes of Buccleuch and Queensberry , which are still in bloom today , represent a hybrid line of the old Scottish (and later British) royal family of Stuart .

The clan's motto is Amo ("I love").
