Mackintosh ( Mac-an-Toisich : "son of the chief") is the name of a Scottish clan that comes from the area east of Loch Ness and goes back to Shaw MacDuff, the third son of the Earl of Fife from the 12th century.

history

Angus, the sixth head of the clan, took over the presidency of Clan Chattan , a warlike confederation of several important highland tribes, through marriage in 1291 . With the Chattan clan, the Mackintosh took part in various territorial feuds, including the last battle between two tribes, which they lost in 1688 at Mulroy against the MacDonalds of Keppoch . The clan initially supported William of Orange , but sided with his opponent during the first Jacobite revolt in 1715.

The motto of the Mackintosh is Touch not the cat bot a glove (“Don't touch the cat without a glove”).
