MacKenzie ("son of Kenneth") is the name of a Scottish clan that comes from Kintail , which lies between Loch Duich and Loch Cluanie . The MacKenzies later expanded their territory significantly. Kenneth MacKenzie was made Lord of Kintail in 1609 and his son Colin became Earl of Seaforth in 1623 .

The clan's motto is Luceo non uro ("I don't burn, I shine").
