Traditional counties of Scotland
The 34 traditional counties of Scotland are only used to illustrate historical and cultural differences, so they no longer fulfill an administrative function. The administrative counties of Scotland , established in 1889, were based on the boundaries of traditional counties. However, the numerous enclaves and enclaves were cleaned up. Ross-shire and the splintered Cromartyshire were combined into Ross and Cromarty .
