Selkirkshire ( Scottish Gaelic Siorrachd Shalcraig ) is a traditional county in south-east Scotland . The historical capital and eponymous place is the city of Selkirk .

As an administrative county, Selkirkshire existed between 1890 and 1975 and then went on in the Districts Ettrick and Lauderdale of the Borders region . The Borders region with its districts was dissolved in 1996 and transformed into the Scottish Borders Unitary Authority .
