Renfrewshire

Renfrewshire ( Gaelic Siorrachd Rinn Friù ) is one of 32  Council Areas in Scotland . It borders North Ayrshire , East Renfrewshire , Glasgow , Inverclyde and West Dunbartonshire .

The Renfrew District, which existed from 1975 to 1996, was a little larger than today's Renfrewshire District and also included the towns of Barrhead , Neilston and Uplawmoor , which are now part of East Renfrewshire.

The traditional county of Renfrewshire was significantly larger, encompassing what is now Inverclyde and East Renfrewshire. During the 1920s, some localities in traditional Renfrewshire were incorporated into Glasgow . Renfrewshire within the traditional boundaries is still one of the Lieutenancy Areas of Scotland today .
