Elderslie ( Scottish Gaelic Ach-na-Feàrna ) is a town in the Scottish council area of Renfrewshire . It is located between Paisley and Johnstone , about 14 km west of Glasgow city ​​center. In 2011 Elderslie had 5634 inhabitants.

The old settlement of Elderslie developed in the 19th century in the course of industrialization. The Glenpatrick paper mill and the Gleniffer whiskey distillery (also Glenpatrick distillery , 1833-1894) were established as important industries . There was also a textile industry, in particular carpets were produced.

The Scottish freedom fighter William Wallace was born around 1270 in Elderslie and grew up there.
