Werner Pees (* 1956 ) is a German church musician and cathedral music director at the Kaiserdom in Bamberg .

Live and act

Pees studied church music at the Catholic church music school in Aachen and completed his studies with the A-exam. From 1982 to 1988 he worked as an organist and choirmaster at Wetzlar Cathedral . On October 1st, 1988 he was appointed head of the Office for Church Music in Bamberg . He held this position as the diocesan music director of the Bamberg Archdiocese until 2007.

As head of church music in the Archdiocese of Bamberg , Pees founded the Church Music Conference , a committee of regional and deanery cantors who act as branches of the Office for Church Music within the diocese . He also filled individual departments on the basis of the new service regulations put into effect by Archbishop Elmar Maria Kredel in 1987. By creating new church music locations and increasing the number of existing ones, Pees achieved a nationwide supply of qualified musicians, which continued in the training of part-time workers.

Right at the start of his activity, in December 1988, Pees launched the publication Kirchenmusik im Erzbistum Bamberg , which appeared three times a year and has a print run of 2,000 copies each time. It is an information leaflet with specialist articles, reports, information, training advice and a concert calendar for church musicians, choirs and lay people interested in music. In 2003, he entrusted Ludger Stühlmeyer with the editorial team .

In order to meet the steadily increasing demand for qualified diocesan choir supervisors, he initiated the twice-yearly choir meeting in the Basilica Vierzehnheiligen , an offer to all choir singers of the archbishopric during a work weekend dedicated to voice training and developing new ones Literature to learn. The highlights of these choir seminars are the diocesan church music days in Bamberg, during which he united the choirs of the diocese to form an overall choir of over 1000 members, as well as the choir pilgrimages to Rome and Tuscany . The choir books Vierzehnheiligen , which are published by the year, were created as a working aid .

In 1989 Pees founded the girls' choir at Bamberg Cathedral, in 1995 the cathedral choir in Bamberg and in 2002 the Schola Bamberg. In 1995 he was also the cathedral music director, an office he still holds today. His duties include leading the cathedral choir, which is based on a long tradition and has 125 members, founded in 1192 by Bishop Otto, the Bamberg Cathedral Choir, the Girls Choir at Bamberg Cathedral and the Bamberg Schola. With the choirs of Bamberg Cathedral, with whom he has already received several prizes and awards in choir competitions, Pees regularly goes on concert tours at home and abroad. He is also present with the cathedral music on radio and television. In 2008 Dommusik was given a new domicile. The former Kolping House on Bamberg's Kaulberg near the Upper Parish offers the Cathedral Music Secretariat, the cathedral choirs and the New Spiritual Song workshop spacious modern rehearsal and conference rooms.

Pees has set himself the goal of recording stations of church music on sound carriers. He is breaking new ground by combining historical models and newly commissioned compositional creations.
