Alois Lorenz Albrecht (born March 16, 1936 in Backnang ) is a German Roman Catholic priest , former vicar general and songwriter.

Life

Alois Albrecht was born in Backnang, grew up in Bayreuth and passed his Abitur at the New Gymnasium Bamberg , as a seminarist at the archbishop's boarding school Ottonianum in Bamberg . After studying Catholic theology and philosophy (1956-1962) at the theological Philosophy College in Bamberg received Albrecht on March 19, 1962 Josef Schneider the sacrament of holy orders and was subsequently first chaplain in Höchstadt an der Aisch , and later in Nuremberg .

From 1965 to 1972 he was diocesan youth pastor in the Archdiocese of Bamberg , then pastor in St. Gangolf (1973 to 1983) and St. Martin (1983 to 1987) in Bamberg and dean of the Bamberg deanery (1981 to 1987). In January 1987 he became cathedral capitular and deputy vicar general, in July 1990 vicar general of the Archdiocese of Bamberg. He was also in charge of the main public relations department. Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Papal Honorary Prelate on July 27, 1991 and the title of Apostolic Protonotary on August 16, 2000 . On March 31, 2006, Archbishop Ludwig Schick accepted Albrecht's resignation from the office of Vicar General after he had turned 70.

Act as a songwriter

Alois Albrecht is one of the pioneers of the New Spiritual Song in Germany. The tradition of new German-language songs in the Archdiocese of Bamberg is closely linked to the liturgical movement and the liturgical renewal of the Second Vatican Council . Albrecht's first texts were written in the 1970s, inspired by the meeting with Peter Janssens and Josef Metternich , the then spiritual advisory board of the Catholic Young Community (KJG) at the federal level.

In 1970, Albrecht, in his role as diocesan youth pastor, initiated a youth synod at Feuerstein Castle in preparation for the Würzburg synod of the German dioceses. For the KJG national meeting in Fulda in 1972 he wrote the texts for two Pentecostal services ( We have a dream and our life is a celebration ) and a version for the canon ( prayer ), which Peter Janssens set to music as a beat mass .

He subsequently worked with various composers and also wrote libretti for sacred singing games, including an oratorio about Maria Ward (1985). His main creative phase of new sacred songs lies between 1970 and 1985. Albrecht's works have shaped generations of young people since their creation.

In addition to his creations in the field of new sacred songs, Alois Albrecht has earned praise of God through new textual versions, new poems and hymns for the daily liturgy of Bamberg's own festivals in the Catholic hymn book . His chants were recorded in song books such as the Cantata or the Praise of God .
