Josef Metternich (pastor)
Josef Metternich (born August 30, 1930 in Cologne -Bickendorf; † July 15, 2003 ) was a German Catholic pastor and lyricist.
Life
Josef Metternich was rector of Haus Altenberg from 1961 to 1972 . From 1972 to 1999 he was pastor at St. Liebfrauen in Cologne-Mülheim .
With Alois Albrecht , Bernd Ferkinghoff and Karin Heinen he composed the New Spiritual Song Our life is a festival .
Based on an idea by Josef Metternich, a mass in the Cologne dialect was celebrated in St. Liebfrauen on February 29, 1976 with newly texted songs by Willi Ostermann , whose 100th birthday was then, and the Bläck Fööss . Metternich got musical support from the organist and choir director Erwin Nonnenbroich. The Kölsche Mess was so well received that it has become a permanent institution to this day.
