Georg Hagel (* 1968 in Bamberg ) is a German organist , regional cantor and organ artist.

Live and act

During his school days he was a member of the cathedral choir of his hometown and from 1985 to 1987 assistant to the then cathedral organist Wolfgang Wünsch. In 1987, as a high school graduate , he played the Rieger organ in the Bamberg Cathedral at the episcopal ordination of Werner Radlayers .

At the Mozarteum University of Music in Salzburg , he studied Catholic church music and the organ concert subject with professors Edgar Krapp and Heribert Metzger . Hagel completed his studies with the A-exam , the degree of a Magister Artium and the soloist diploma for organ. The Austrian Federal Ministry for Art and Culture awarded him a sponsorship award as the best of the year.

He completed his training with private studies with Guy Bovet , Jean Guillou , Olivier Latry , Lionel Rogg , Daniel Roth and Gillian Weir . Olivier Messiaen, among others, provided him with artistic inspiration .

Shortly before Christmas 1990, Vierzehnheiligen stood without an organist, whereupon Hagel stepped in for a short time. In 1991, while still a student at the age of 23, he became the official organist of the Vierzehnheiligen Basilica , where he regularly organizes concerts. Hagel is one of eight regional cantors in the Archdiocese of Bamberg .

In 1998 he said goodbye to the old Bittner / Steinmeyer organ in the basilica and has been playing the new Rieger organ since 1999 , to the construction and extensive planning of which he contributed with great commitment. He went on concert tours to other European countries, Japan and the USA .
