Edgar Krapp

Edgar Krapp (born June 3, 1947 in Bamberg ) is a German organist and musicologist .

Live and act

Krapp received his first organ lessons as a member of the Regensburger Domspatzen . After graduating from the Franz-Ludwig-Gymnasium Bamberg in 1966, he studied organ with Franz Lehrndorfer in Munich and with Marie-Claire Alain in Paris. During his studies he was already a winner of several international music competitions.

Krapp has performed in Europe, America and Japan as a concert organist and has worked with renowned conductors such as Rafael Kubelík , Georges Prêtre , Colin Davis , Lorin Maazel , Vladimir Fedoseyev , Horst Stein and Christoph Eschenbach, as well as orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra , the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra , the Munich Philharmonic , the Bamberg Symphony , the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin and the Vienna Symphony

Krapp performed Bach 's complete organ works several times , and all 14 concerts in Munich were broadcast live on the radio. Radio and vinyl recordings were also made during his performances of GF Handel's organ concerts and his entire harpsichord work .

From 1974 to 1993 he led an organ class at the Frankfurt Music Academy as the successor to Helmut Walcha . From 1982 to 1991 he was visiting professor at the Salzburg Mozarteum . In 1993 he was appointed to succeed Franz Lehrndorfer at the Musikhochschule Munich , where he taught until 2012.

Krapp is a member of the board of directors of the Neue Bachgesellschaft Leipzig and the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts . He is also a member of the jury for the ARD music competition .

Among his students are numerous well-known organists such as Wolfgang Kleber , Markus Karas , Torsten Laux , Ludwig Ruckdeschel , Martin Sander , Michael Schöch , Dan Zerfaß , Angela Gehann-Dernbach , Georg Hagel and Josef Hauber .

Trivia

Edgar Krapp was a regular listener of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra in his youth and is still artistically connected to his hometown Bamberg. He played a key role in the conception of the new Jann organ in Bamberg and was artistic director of the organ series of the Bamberg Symphony from 1993 to 2012. Today the artistic direction and lead management is in the hands of Christian Schmitt .
