Martin Sander (organist)

Martin Sander (* 1963 in Berlin ) is a German organist . He works as an international concert soloist and teaches artistic organ playing as a professor at the Detmold Music Academy and at the Basel City Music Academy .

Live and act

Sander studied organ and piano at the Hanover University of Music and Theater with Ulrich Bremsteller (organ) and Gerrit Zitterbart (piano). In 1994 he passed the concert exam . He supplemented his studies with master classes and further studies with Harald Vogel , Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini , Flor Peeters , Daniel Roth , Edgar Krapp and others.

Even before he began his studies, he attracted attention with prizes at the national youth music competition in 1983 and the Mendelssohn Prize in Berlin in 1986. In the following years he established his international reputation by winning several of the major international organ competitions: ARD Competition Munich 1987 (2nd prize; no 1st prize awarded) International JS Bach Competition Leipzig 1988 (1st prize and special prize): Internationaler Competition of the Prague Spring 1989. He achieved further success with 2nd prizes at the International Organ Competition " Anton Bruckner " in 1986 in Linz and at the "First International Organ Competition" in Tokyo (1988).

Sander has performed as a soloist with a number of renowned orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic , the Bach Collegium Stuttgart , the Radiophilharmonie Hannover, the Handel Festival Orchestra Halle / Saale, the Bochum Symphony Orchestra , the Szolnók Symphony Orchestra, Basel Sinfonietta , Pomeranian Philharmonic Bydgoscz (Bromberg), Fukuoka Symphonietta, Orchestra of the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo .

There are numerous radio, television and CD recordings for various domestic and foreign broadcasters and labels. The TV and CD recording of Julius Reubke's organ sonata was awarded the German Record Critics' Prize.

From 1999 to 2012 he was a professor at the University of Church Music in Heidelberg . From 2001 to 2008 he was also a lecturer at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts . Since 2008, Martin Sander has held a professorship at the Music Academy of the City of Basel as the successor to Guy Bovet and since 2012 a professorship at the Detmold University of Music . In addition, he leads numerous master classes .
