Werner Radlayers

Werner Radlayers (born August 13, 1938 in Nuremberg ; † March 7, 2018 there ) was auxiliary bishop in Bamberg from 1986 to 2013 .

Life

Cyclist grew up in Eichstätt , where he attended elementary school and high school. In 1954 his family returned to Nuremberg. There he passed the Abitur in 1958 . He then studied theology and philosophy in Bamberg and was ordained a priest there on March 8, 1964 . First he was chaplain in Neustadt an der Aisch and in Fürth and from 1964–1969 Prefect at the Bamberg Ottonianum before he became pastor of Heroldsbach (November 16, 1969). From 1972 to 1977 he taught Catholic religion at the ETA-Hoffmann-Gymnasium in Bamberg. On January 1, 1975, he was appointed cathedral vicar and cathedral preacher in Bamberg.

With effect from August 1, 1977, Archbishop Elmar Maria Kredel appointed Werner Radlayers to the cathedral chapter . In addition, he became the main department head for public relations. On November 7, 1986 Pope appointed him John Paul II. To the titular of Thugga and Auxiliary Bishop of Bamberg . Radspieler was diocesan administrator twice , from April 1, 1994 to May 28, 1995 and from July 3, 2001 to September 20, 2002. From September 28, 2000 to September 28, 2006 he was the representative of the German Bishops' Conference for police chaplaincy . Radspieler was Provost of the Metropolitan Chapter of the Archdiocese of Bamberg.

One focus of his work was the charitable area. Radspieler belonged to the commission for charitable issues of the German Bishops' Conference. From April 1, 1996 to September 30, 2008, he was chairman of the Caritas Association of the Archdiocese of Bamberg.

On September 9, 2013, Pope Francis accepted Radspieler's age-related resignation. Until his death he lived as an emeritus in Nuremberg.

Werner Radlayers died in March 2018 at the age of 79 in Nuremberg.
