Herwig Gössl (born February 22, 1967 in Munich ) is auxiliary bishop in Bamberg .

Life

Herwig Gössl, born in Munich and raised in Nuremberg, entered the Bamberg seminary in 1986 and studied theology and philosophy in Bamberg and Innsbruck. In 1993 he was ordained a priest . He was active in pastoral care in Bayreuth, Hannberg, Weisendorf and Erlangen. In 2008 he became sub-rain of the joint seminary of the dioceses of Bamberg and Würzburg in Würzburg.

On 24 January 2014 it appointed Pope Francis to the titular bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Balecium and Auxiliary Bishop of Bamberg. Archbishop Ludwig Schick donated him episcopal ordination on March 15 of the same year . Co- consecrators were the retired Archbishop Karl Braun and the retired Auxiliary Bishop Werner Radlayers . His motto Tu solus Dominus was set to music by Werner Pees in March 2014 .

Herwig Gössl is a member of the Commission for Marriage and Family and the Caritas Commission of the German Bishops' Conference .
