Michael Deinlein , from 1856 Knight of Deinlein , (born October 26, 1800 in Hetzles in Upper Franconia ; † January 4, 1875 in Bamberg ) was Roman Catholic Archbishop of Bamberg from 1858 to 1875 .

Life

After graduating from high school, Deinlein studied theology and philosophy in Bamberg . On November 18, 1824 he was ordained a priest . This was followed, among other things, as a cathedral chaplain and as a temporary pastor from 1827 to 1830 in Coburg . Afterwards he was Regens and professor of moral theology at the Bamberg Lyceum, in 1841 he became cathedral capitular and in 1844 vicar general .

In 1853 he was taken over by Pope Pius IX. appointed auxiliary bishop in Bamberg and titular bishop of Adramyttium . The episcopal ordination donated to him on November 20, 1853 Karl August von Reisach . From 1851 to 1856 he was chairman of the Bamberg Historical Society . In 1856 he received the “personal nobility” by being awarded the Order of Civil Merit by the Bavarian Crown . In 1856 he was appointed Bishop of Augsburg and in 1858 Archbishop of Bamberg. He hosted the 19th German Catholic Day in Bamberg . As a church politician, Deinlein opposed the Pope's dogma of infallibility at the First Vatican Council (1869/70) . The bishop left the council early in order not to have to take part in the vote on the position of the pope.

He died in 1875 in the episcopate.
