Franz Konrad Reichsfreiherr (Reichsgraf since 1686) of Stadion and Thannhausen (born August 29, 1679 in Arnstein ; † March 6, 1757 in Bamberg ) was Prince-Bishop of Bamberg from 1753 to 1757 .

Like many of his family members from the Stadion house, Franz Konrad also took advantage of the opportunities offered by the imperial church as a supply institution to the Catholic nobility and joined the cathedral monastery in Bamberg as early as 1695. After studying in Rome and Angers , Franz Konrad was electoral Mainz ambassador to the Brandenburg-Prussian and Saxon courts from 1709 . In addition to Bamberg, Franz Konrad was also represented in the Würzburg cathedral chapter from 1719 , where he held the office of provost from 1727 and had the “Domherrenhof Stadion” ( Marmelsteiner Hof ) built by Balthasar Neumann in 1747 .

After the death of the Bamberg prince-bishop Johann Philipp Anton von und zu Franckenstein , the Bamberg cathedral chapter elected him in the second ballot on July 23, 1753 as his successor. The papal confirmation accompanying the award of the pallium came shortly afterwards on September 26th of the same year.

The newly elected bishop was a religious man, which was also reflected in the introduction of a new catechism for school instruction in the Bamberg Monastery, which he initiated. He also promoted the popular mission of the Jesuits.

Franz Konrad was appointed bishop and sovereign for only a short time; he died less than four years after taking office in March 1757 and was buried in Bamberg Cathedral . His grave monument is in the Michael's Church .

The coat of arms of the prince-bishop is attached to the old town hall in Bamberg above the gate that faces the island town.
