Friedrich Philipp von Abert (born May 1, 1852 in Münnerstadt in Lower Franconia , † April 23, 1912 in Bamberg ) was Archbishop of Bamberg .

Life

Friedrich Philipp von Abert studied philosophy in Passau after graduating from high school in Münnerstadt. In 1871 he entered the Würzburg seminary . He was ordained a priest on February 20, 1875 , then worked in pastoral care, in 1881 he became an assistant at the episcopal clerical seminary , received his doctorate in theology in 1882 and in 1885 he became an associate professor of dogmatics at the royal Lyceum in Regensburg. In 1890 he received a call to the chair of dogmatic theology and Christian symbolism at the University of Würzburg , was 1894/95, 1899/1900 and dean of the theological faculty and 1900/01 rector of the alma mater.

In 1905 he became Pope Pius X. Archbishop of Bamberg appointed. The episcopal ordination on May 1, 1905 gave him Franz Joseph von Stein , Archbishop of Munich and Freising . His motto was Caritate fortiter et suaviter ("Strong and kind through love"). He died in office after a serious illness and was buried in Bamberg Cathedral on the north pillar of the west choir in a tomb by the sculptor Balthasar Schmitt .

He founded numerous new parishes and had churches built, especially in the Nuremberg area. In the 1907 Reichstag election, Friedrich Philipp von Abert publicly opposed the support recommended by the Center for the Social Democrats .

Friedrich Philipp von Abert was a member of the Catholic student associations KDSt.V. Thuringia Würzburg and KDSt.V. Gothia Würzburg in the CV .

In 1987 he became an honorary citizen of his birthplace Münnerstadt in Lower Franconia .
