history

Heroldsbach community near Forchheim

The history of all parts of Heroldbach's parish is closely linked to that of the former royal court Forchheim, which was built around the year 750. In 1007 Heroldsbach was first mentioned in a document as "Herigoldesbach" (on the brook of Herigoldes). The place belonged to the royal court in Forchheim and was donated by King Heinrich II. Together with 14 other settlements to the newly founded diocese of Bamberg . From 1478 to 1849 the Barons vonöffelholz owned the Heroldsbach Castle, a former forester's house. With the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, the place came to Bavaria. In 1923, the Heroldsbach parish, which existed from 1405 to 1610, was re-established. The municipality of Heroldsbach was enlarged on April 1, 1971 through the voluntary merger of the municipalities of Heroldsbach and Thurn. Oesdorf was added on May 1, 1971. A Marian apparition site with a chapel of grace in Thurn was inaugurated in 1998.

The pond management was an economic factor . A map from 1825 shows over 150 ponds. Around a hundred of them are still managed, even if their size has often shrunk a bit.

Heroldsbach became known nationwide from the 18th to the late 20th century for its " Krenweiber " ( horseradish women), who wore traditional costumes and large baskets throughout Bavaria selling spices and tea.

The Catholic parish church of St. Michael is located in Heroldsbach . Ecclesiastically, Heroldsbach belongs to the Dean's Office Forchheim and thus to the Archdiocese of Bamberg . The parish of Heroldsbach also includes the subsidiary churches St. Vitus Oesdorf, St. Laurentius Wimmelbach, St. Georg Poppendorf and the castle chapel of Thurn Castle for Saint Sebastian .

Together with the Catholic parish of Hausen, the Heroldsbach parish forms a pastoral care area founded in 2006. Pastors in the pastoral care area in Heroldsbach-Hausen are Pastor Klaus Weigand, Deacon Andreas Eberhorn (both since 2015) and parish officer Christian Deuber (since 2012).

Evangelically, Heroldsbach and its parish parts belong to the parish of Hemhofen with the Heilandskirche there. A so-called community apartment in the Ringstrasse serves as a meeting point in Heroldsbach. Otherwise they use the church and the parish hall of the Catholic community on an equal footing.

The Munich sculptor Max Seibold created after the First World War the monument behind the church for the Fallen, to the fallen of 1945 after World War II has been expanded.

Thurn Castle

The municipality of Thurn (recorded in 1422) was shaped by the Thurn aristocratic estate. At the end of the 18th century, the then dilapidated castle buildings were demolished and today's complex, a baroque , two-wing pleasure palace surrounded by a wide moat, was built. The current owner, Hanfried Graf Bentzel-Sturmfeder-Horneck , has redesigned the area of the old castle park (around 300,000 m²) into the Schloss Thurn adventure park.

Place of prayer

The so-called Marienerscheinungsstätte was recognized by the Archdiocese of Bamberg in 1998 as a place of prayer , but not as a place of apparition . The place is visited by pilgrims especially on Catholic holidays. Supporters of the alleged apparitions have registered in the private pilgrim association Heroldsbach e. V. merged.
