Effeltrich is a municipality in the Upper Franconian district of Forchheim and the seat of the Effeltrich administrative community .

geography

Geographical location

The community is about 20 kilometers north of Nuremberg . The incorporated district of Gaiganz, approx. Three kilometers northeast (approx. 450 inhabitants), belongs to Effeltrich. The Franconian Marienweg runs through Effeltrich .

Neighboring municipalities are (starting from the north and clockwise):

Pinzberg , Kunreuth , Hetzles , Langensendelbach and Poxdorf , with which Effeltrich forms an administrative community .

history

Until the church is planted

Effeltrich means place with many apple trees ( apple- rich). The place was first mentioned in a document in 1174 and since then has had a distinctive fruit tree cultivation, which has always been the main source of income for the place. The tree nurseries and horticultural companies still shape the townscape today . In 1433 the Effeltrich chapel was mentioned in a document. The place belonged to the bishopric of Bamberg until the secularization in 1802 , from 1500 to the Franconian Empire and then came to Bavaria.

Incorporations

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent community Gaiganz was incorporated.

Culture and sights

Effeltrich is known for its traditional costumes and customs, which are mainly cultivated by the Effeltrich folk costume association and the Effeltrich singers and musicians.

Effeltrich is also known for the at least 500 years old, legendary dancing linden tree on the village square, which was the cultural center of the community at student festivals, moonlit nights and other traditional events. The place has a fortified church from the Middle Ages, which is known as the fortified church and is dedicated to St. George.
