Anna Maria Mazzetti (born August 25, 1988 in Magenta ) is an Italian triathlete , multiple national champion (triathlon sprint, triathlon Olympic distance), vice European triathlon champion (2015) and Olympic athlete (2012, 2016).

Career

At the Aquathlon World Championship (2.5 km running, 1 km swimming and 2.5 km running) Anna Maria Mazzetti finished sixth in September 2005.

In October 2006, the then 18-year-old became vice European champion in the junior duathlon.

In 2007 Mazzetti won the Italian triathlon championships in all junior classes (aquathlon, duathlon, triathlon). In 2008 she became Italian U23 champion and in 2009 also in the elite category.

Thanks to her European Championship bronze medals 2010 (U23) and 2011 (Elite) she was one of the great Italian Olympic hopes for 2012. In 2011 Mazzetti won the bronze medal at the Elite European Championships behind Emmie Charayron and Vendula Frintová . After Nadia Cortassa, Mazzetti is the only Italian to have achieved a podium at a European Championship.

In Italy, Mazzetti, like Daniela Chmet , represents the police association (Polizia di Stato) GS Fiamme Oro, having previously been with the Friesian team . Mazzetti graduated from a science-oriented grammar school (liceo sientifico) and lives in Cesate .

In June 2014, after 2010 (U23) and 2011, she was third in the European Championships on the short distance triathlon in Kitzbühel for the third time. In September she became the Italian national champion in the Olympic distance.

In July 2015, she became vice European champion on the Olympic distance in Geneva .

2016 Summer Olympics

Anna Maria Mazzetti qualified for a starting place at the 2016 Summer Olympics, she started for Italy on August 20 in Rio de Janeiro and finished 29th behind Charlotte Bonin (17th) as the second best Italian.

On the triathlon sprint distance, she became Italian state champion in Riccione in October 2016 and was able to successfully defend her titles from the two previous years.

In the annual ranking of the ITU World Championship Series 2019 , she finished ninth as the best Italian.
