The World Championship Series 2014 is a triathlon racing series over the "short distance" or "Olympic triathlon distance". It is organized by the international triathlon association ITU ( International Triathlon Union ).

The distances for these races are 1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running. This world series has been organized annually by the International Triathlon Union (ITU) since 1989 . In the 2014 season, seven races and the finale were held in Edmonton, Canada at the end of August.

Rating
In addition to the eight races of the world series, the other races of the ITU World Cup are also taken into account for the annual ranking of the world championship:
At the finale in Edmonton in August there are 1200 points for a win and at the other seven races of the world series there are 800 points for a win . In a normal ITU World Cup, however, there are only 300 points. Every further placement in these races receives a fixed number of points.
The best four results of the world series, the last final race and a maximum of two World Cup races were taken into account for the annual ranking.

* During the race in Cape Town on April 26th, the swimming distance for women had to be shortened from 1500 to 750 meters due to the weather.

Men
In August 2014, Javier Gómez was able to secure the world championship title on the short distance again in Canada with third place in the last race of the ITU World Championship series in 2014 - his fourth title after 2008, 2010 and 2013.

Women
As part of the 2014 ITU World Championship racing series, the American Gwen Jorgensen was able to win four races in a row, which no other athlete has achieved before and in August, she won the final race of the racing series ("Grand Final") in Canada with her fifth victory ) secure the world championship title on the triathlon short distance.
