ITU World Championship Series
The Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series is a triathlon racing series over the "short distance" or "Olympic triathlon distance" (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running).

In 1989, the international triathlon association ITU ( International Triathlon Union ) held the Triathlon World Championship as a 1-day World Championship in Avignon for the first time and has been repeated annually since then until 2008.
In 2009, the Triathlon World Championship was then expanded to include an international racing series under the name "Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series". Dextro Energy , the eponym of this series is considered one of the leading glucose manufacturers.
Gold Group
The ITU has been designating a “Gold Group” every year since 2009 - the ten best women and men from previous years each represent the ITU in public and secure an additional starting place for their national associations for each of the seven races.
For 2011, in addition to the Olympic champions Emma Snowsill and Jan Frodeno , Steffen Justus as well as Nicola Spirig and Sven Riederer for Switzerland were there.
