When they were built in 2000, the Mærsk C-Class ships were among the world's largest container ships .

history

The series developed in the second half of the 1990s from the previous size record holder, the Sovereign-Mærsk type , was delivered from June 2000 by the Danish Odense Staalskibsværft . The client for the series was the Copenhagen-based shipping company Mærsk Line , where the ships are still in service today.

The C-class ships are among the Post-Panamax container ships and have a capacity of 6,600 TEU (loaded containers weighing 14 tons each), or 8,648 TEU in real spaces. The ships can stow 17 containers transversely and a total of 13 layers on top of each other. The Maersk C-Class can also be regarded as the third series of the Sovereign-Mærsk type, as the shipping company operates it together with the other S-Class ships. The main construction difference compared to the two series of the S-Class lies in the more powerful two-stroke main engines of the type HSD-Wärtsilä New Sulzer Diesel 12RTA96C. These were the most powerful diesel engines on the market at the time.

In 2011, the deckhouses of most of the ships at the Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Company were increased to increase deck space capacity.
