Celine Schärer (born February 9, 1990 in Zug ) is a former Swiss triathlete . She is Swiss U23 champion in 2010, Swiss champion in the triathlon long distance (2013, 2017), short distance (2014) and until 2019 member of the Swiss Triathlon national team in the Elite B squad . She is the Ironman winner (2017) and is included in the list of Swiss triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Céline Schärer came to the youth training of the Baar swimming club at the age of 6 and has been running triathlons since 1998. She is five-time Swiss triathlon champion (pupils / youth), seven-time Swiss duathlon champion (pupils / youth) and Swiss champion running 3000 m Halle (youth).
In 2006 Schärer took part in their first ITU competition and was 26th at the Junior World Championship.

In 2007 she finished 24th and 31st at the Junior European and World Championships and won several prestigious Swiss triathlons in her age group: Aquathlon Basel (May 26, 2007, youth A), Triathlon Murthen (June 10, 2007, junior) and Zyttrum Triathlon (June 16, 2007, Youth A). In 2008 and 2009, Schärer achieved top ten placements in Junior European Cups four times, in Switzerland she won the Zurich Triathlon (July 12, 2008), in 2009 she won the VW Circuit (Junior) and came second at the Swiss Junior Championships. In 2010 she was ninth at the U23 European Championship and 23rd at the U23 World Championship.

In Switzerland, Céline Schärer represents the Swimming Club Frauenfeld and the Tri Team Zugerland (Triathlon Checkpoint Zugerland). Since 2008, Schärer has also competed in the French club championship series Lyonnaise des Eaux , initially for Ste. Geneviève, since 2009 for Tri Club Chateauroux 36 .

Since 2011 she has started as a triathlon professional. In September 2012, Celine Schärer became Vice Swiss Triathlon champion over the Olympic distance. When she started on the Ironman distance for the first time in July 2013, she was second in Zurich as the best Swiss woman, making her Swiss champion in the long distance triathlon.

Swiss Triathlon Champion 2014

In July 2014 she became Swiss champion on the Olympic distance in Geneva. At Ironman 70.3 Cozumel , she won her first victory at half the Ironman distance in September 2015. The multiple Swiss triathlon champion (schoolchildren, youth) won the Ironman South Africa in her age category in 2015 and thus qualified for the Ironman Hawaii. She has been with the Cube team since 2016 . In August 2016 she finished second at the Ironman Vichy .

Ironman 2017 winner

In July 2017, the then 27-year-old won Ironman Switzerland at her fourth start in Zurich , qualifying for the first time for a place at the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships), where she finished 23rd in October. In December 2019, the then 29-year-old declared her active time over after eight years as a professional.

Private

Céline Schärer graduated from high school in Zug and lives in Steinhausen . She studied marketing at the AKAD in Zurich. Her older sister Stéphanie Duss-Schärer (* 1986) is also active as a triathlete.
