The Ironman 70.3 Switzerland is a triathlon competition of the Ironman 70.3 racing series organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) in Switzerland .
organization
Worldwide, the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) awards races over a distance of 1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running. The name is derived from the total distance of 113 km or 70.3 miles in a competition.
In Rapperswil-Jona , Ironman 70.3 Switzerland took place for the first time in 2007, an Ironman race in Switzerland over the middle distance. At the third edition in 2009, 2200 starting places were allocated for the competition on June 7th.
In June 2013, the organizers announced before the race that the competition would be held without the swimming distance due to the water temperature being too low and that this would be replaced by a 4.5 km run. After a mudslide on the day of the race, the Ironman 70.3 in Switzerland had to be canceled because the bike route became impassable.
The Swiss Daniela Ryf has already won six times and her compatriot Ronnie Schildknecht three times in a row.
The last and twelfth edition of this race was on June 2, 2019. The 13th edition, scheduled for October 13, 2020, had to be canceled in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic and the next date is June 6, 2021.
