Joshua (Josh) Amberger (born April 12, 1989 in Brisbane ) is an Australian duathlete and triathlete . He is Ironman winner (2017), vice world champion on the long distance triathlon (2017) and is included in the best list of Australian triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

In his youth, Joshua Amberger was active in swimming. His younger sister Eloise Amberger (* 1987) was also a swimmer and started synchronized swimming at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 and in London in 2012.

Triathlon professional since 2007

Joshua Amberger has been practicing triathlon since 2004; he started his professional career in 2007 at the age of 18. In 2007 he finished sixth and in June 2008 he finished fourth in the Junior Triathlon World Championship.

In 2014, after 16 starts, he was able to place himself on the podium for the tenth time. His nicknames are "Josh" or "The Goff". He starts in the Bahrain Endurance Development & Racing Team , lives in Brisbane and is trained by Todd English .

Vice-world champion on the long-distance triathlon in 2017

In June 2017 he won the Ironman Cairns and in August the 28-year-old was runner-up in Canada in the long-distance triathlon.

At the Ironman European Championships 2018 he was the fastest swimmer in the race in Frankfurt am Main in fifth place. In February 2020, the 30-year-old won the Ironman 70.3 Geelong .

Private

Amberger is in a relationship with the triathlete Ashleigh Gentle (* 1991).
