Coordinates: 33 ° 45 ′ S , 150 ° 42 ′ E Penrith City is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . Penrith belongs to the metropolis of Sydney , the capital of New South Wales. The area is 404.7 km² and has about 196,000 inhabitants.
Penrith is located on the western edge of Sydney about 40 to 55 km from the city center. The area includes 57 neighborhoods: Bel Air, Berkshire Park, Cambridge Gardens, Cambridge Park, Castlereagh, Upper Castlereagh, Chatsworth, Claremont Meadows, Colyton, Cranebrook, Dunheved, Emu Heights, Emu Plains, Erskine Park, Glenmore Park, Hewitt, Hornsey Wood , Jamisontown, Kingswood, Kingswood Park, Kingswood RAAF Base, Lambridge, Lemongrove, Leonay, Llandilo, Londonderry, Londonderry RAAF, Mayfair Park, McCanns Island, Melville, Mount Pleasant, Mount Vernon, Mulgoa, Orchard Hills, Oxley Park, Penrith, Penrith Park, Penrith Plaza, Penrith South, Quarry Hill, Regentville, St Clair, St Clair West, St Marys East, St Marys North, St Marys South, Werrington, Werrington County, Werrington Downs and parts of Agnes Banks, Badgerys Creek, Cecil Park , Kemps Creek, Luddenham, St Marys, Wallacia and Wallacia Heights. The council's administrative headquarters are in the Penrith district to the west of the LGA.

The Penrith City Council has 15 members elected by residents of the three wards (five each from South, East and North Ward). These three districts are defined independently of the localities. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
