Pablo Dapena González (born January 19, 1988 in Pontevedra ) is a Spanish triathlete . He is Spanish long-distance triathlon champion (2017) and ITU long-distance world champion (2018).

Career

In his youth, Pablo Dapena was active as a swimmer in the Club Natación Pontevedra for 13 years . At the age of 22 he studied abroad, in Hungary, for a year.

He has been running triathlon since 2010. In September 2014 and again in 2017 he came second in the national championships on the short distance triathlon.

In 2016, Pablo Dapena switched from the short distance to the medium and long distance after an injury break. In July 2016 he finished second at the Triathlon de Vitoria-Gasteiz .

In August 2017 he was disqualified at the World Championships on the long distance triathlon in Penticton (Canada) and in October he became the national long distance triathlon champion.

ITU world champion triathlon long distance

In 2018, the 30-year-old triathlon world champion over the long distance at the ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships (4 km swimming, 130 km cycling and 30 km running) in Denmark.

In September he also became ETU Vice-European Triathlon Long Distance Champion as part of the Challenge Madrid .

In the 2019 season he changes to the BMC Vifit Pro Triathlon Team . and in May the 31-year-old was runner-up in the long-distance triathlon world championship in Spain. At the Challenge Daytona Beach in December, he finished second behind the Canadian Lionel Sanders .
