Jonathan Callum "Jonny" Brownlee (born April 30, 1990 in Leeds ) is a British triathlete . He is U23 world champion (2010), triathlon world champion on the sprint distance (2010, 2011 and 2012), triathlon world champion on the short distance (2012), two-time Olympic athlete (2012, 2016) and Olympic runner-up (2016).

Career

In France, Jonathan Brownlee started as part of the club championship series Lyonnaise des Eaux in 2010 for the club EC Sartrouville as an elite legionnaire and proved his class at the opening triathlon in Dunkirk on May 23, 2010 - he won the gold medal in the Individual ranking and secured his club 2nd place in the club ranking.

With his older brother Alistair Brownlee , the winner of the ITU World Championship Series in 2009 and 2011 , he was BT (British Telecom) Ambassador of the Olympic 2012 project.

In August 2010 he became triathlon world champion on the sprint distance and he was able to repeat this success twice in 2011 and 2012.

Brownlee attended Bradford Grammar School and is studying history at the University of Leeds .

2012 Summer Olympics

In August 2012, he finished third at the Olympic Games in London. In October he secured the 2012 Olympic distance world title in New Zealand with second place in the last race of the 2012 season .

In 2014, Jonathan Brownlee finished second in the Commonwealth Games.

He finished the 2015 Triathlon World Championship racing series in eleventh place after ten races.

2016 Summer Olympics

Jonathan Brownlee qualified again for a starting place at the Olympic Games in 2016 and he competed for Great Britain in Brazil - together with Helen Jenkins , Non Stanford and Vicky Holland , Gordon Benson and his brother Alistair . On August 18, he won the silver medal behind his brother in Rio de Janeiro. In September he finished second in the last race of the World Cup racing series (“Grand Final”) in Mexico and was runner-up in the triathlon world championship.

He finished sixth in the 2017 world championship racing series. He starts in the national team of the British Triathlon Federation .
