Miles Stewart
Miles Stewart (born May 4, 1971 in Manly , Australia ) is a former Australian triathlete . He is triathlon world champion on the short distance (1991), ITU world cup winner (1996) and Olympian (2000).
Career
Miles Stewart was active as a speed skater in the 1980s .
At the first triathlon world championships in 1989, the then 18-year-old narrowly missed the medal ranks in France and finished fourth.
ITU Triathlon World Champion 1991
Two years later, in October 1991, Stewart became world champion in the short distance triathlon (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) in his homeland in Queensland , Australia .
2000 Summer Olympics
In Australia, he started at the Summer Olympics in September 2000 and finished sixth.
In August 2002 he finished second at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, just 2 seconds behind Canadian Simon Whitfield .
In 2004 he declared his time as a professional triathlete over.
Awards
- Miles Stewart was nominated for Hall of Fame induction by the International Triathlon Union (ITU) in 2014 .
