Spencer Smith (born May 11, 1973 in Hounslow ) is a former British triathlete . He is triathlon world champion (1992, 1993, 1994) and two-time Ironman winner (2001, 2002).

Career

Spencer Smith attended Halliford School in Shepperton .

In 1991 he became Junior European Triathlon Champion in Losheim.
He was three times world champion in triathlon on the short distance (1992 in the juniors, 1993 and 1994) and in 1992 and 1997 he was European champion. In 1996 he finished third at the World Triathlon Long Distance Championship.

In 1998, Spencer Smith came under suspicion of doping because he tested positive for nandrolone after the Ironman Hawaii . The International Court of Justice confirmed the presence of the substance 17 months later, but saw the reliability of the test questioned due to a calculation error, so that Smith was acquitted.

Spencer Smith is a two-time Ironman winner. He was trained by Paul Huddle and his nickname was Powerhorse . Today he works as a triathlon coach and lives with his wife in Palm Harbor, Florida.
