Andrew Johns (born September 23, 1973 in Peterborough ) is a former British triathlete . He is a two-time Olympic starter (2000, 2004) and two-time European triathlon champion on the short distance (1998, 2000).

Career

Andrew Johns started triathlon in 1992 and became triathlon European champion on the short distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) in Velden am Wörthersee, Austria .

In 2000 he was able to successfully defend his title at the European Triathlon Championships. In the same year he started in September for Great Britain in the triathlon, which was held for the first time as part of the Olympic Games in Sydney, but could not finish the race. In 2002 he was third at the ITU World Championship and in 2004 he started again at the Olympic Games for the British team and finished 16th.

In 2006 he was third both at the European Triathlon Championships and in September at the World Championships on the short distance.

In February 2007 he finished second on the long distance at the Ironman Malaysia (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) and in November third at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships . He was a professional athlete in Team TBB and was trained by Brett Sutton . In 2008 he declared his active time over.

“AJ” lives with the former Danish triathlete Lisbeth Kristensen (* 1972) and their daughter in Leysin , Switzerland.
