Iwan Michailowitsch Wassiljew ( Russian Иван Михайлович Васильев ; born September 7, 1984 in Kostroma ) is a former Russian triathlete and European triathlon champion on the short distance (2013).

Career

In 2005 he was third at the European Triathlon Championships in the U23 age group.

Wassiljew has been playing in the 1st Bundesliga for the EJOT Team TV Buschhütten since 2009 .

2012 Summer Olympics

In April 2012 he was third at the European Championships on the Olympic short distance and at the 2012 Olympic Summer Games he was 13th.

In June 2013, Vasilyev became European champion on the short distance triathlon in Turkey.

In the 2016 World Championship series, he finished 170th. He has not appeared internationally since 2016.

Personal

Ivan Vasiliev lives in Moscow . His younger brother Denis Wassiljew is also active as a triathlete.
