The Kolping Houses were originally Catholic journeyman's hospices ( journeyman's hospice ) that were established in the 19th century and offered basic care to wandering journeymen.

history

The Kolping Houses were founded by the Catholic priest and social reformer Adolph Kolping , who, in view of the dissolution of the so-called master families and the loss of family and religious values, developed a charitable hospice system that served as a supplement to the journeyman's associations previously founded by Kolping . The world's first Kolping House was moved into on April 17, 1853 in Linz on Gesellenhausstrasse, expanded in 1903 and supplemented in 1930 with a listed building with a cinema in Langgasse, now the Kuddelmuddel children's cultural center. In 1938 the association was banned, the Kolping House was confiscated and its gable mosaic with around 10 m² was destroyed. In 1946 the association was re-established and over the years the house was completely restituted. In 1975 a new building was opened.
