Markus Willinger

Markus Willinger (born July 12, 1967 in Arnstorf , Lower Bavaria ) is a German cathedral organist , diocesan music director and professor of organ playing.

biography

After attending grammar school at Metten Monastery , he studied Catholic church music and the organ as a major at the University of Music and Theater in Munich . He then worked as an assistant at Eichstätt Cathedral . He completed his masterclass studies with Franz Lehrndorfer in Munich , and his concert diploma in organ improvisation with Daniel Roth at the Hochschule für Musik in Saarbrücken .

From 1991 to 1994 he worked as a church musician at the parish church of St. Georg in Freising . Since October 1994, Markus Willinger has been a lecturer in liturgical and artistic organ playing at the Meistersinger Conservatory in Nuremberg, the current Nuremberg University of Music . Since January 1995 he has been the organist at Bamberg Cathedral , where he has performed the entire organ works by Johann Sebastian Bach in 2005 in a cycle of 16 concerts and starting in Advent 2018 in a cycle of 20 concerts . In addition, Willinger is the official expert for the organ and bell system in the Archdiocese of Bamberg .

In 2003 Markus Willinger founded a vocal ensemble that was named Capella Henrici in 2009 . It consists of trained singers and experienced amateur singers and performs regularly in Bamberg Cathedral. Since the winter semester of 2006, Markus Willinger has been teaching in the successor to Karl Maureen as professor for organ playing at the Nuremberg University of Music . Since 2007 he has also been the diocesan music director and head of the church music office of the Archdiocese of Bamberg. In addition to his church and academic obligations, Markus Willinger regularly gives concerts at home and abroad.
