Banffshire ( Scottish Gaelic Siorrachd Bhanbh ) is one of the traditional counties of Scotland , located in north-east Scotland between the Cairngorm Mountains and the coast of the Moray Firth . The city of Banff is the historical administrative center and eponymous place . The county's largest town is Buckie , a small town of 8,000 people.

As an administrative county, Banffshire existed between 1890 and 1975 and then became part of the Grampian region . The Grampian region was dissolved in 1996; since then, the area of ​​Banffshire has been divided between the two council areas Moray and Aberdeenshire . Banffshire is still one of the Lieutenancy Areas of Scotland today .
