history
The origin of the place name is not clear, as there was probably no lake called Loch Winnoch in the past . Allegedly there were almost forty different spellings of the place name in the past. One explanation is that it is derived from the Holy Winnok . With industrialization, textile and leather processing companies settled in Lochwinnoch. Furniture manufacturers were added later. Today there are only a few industrial companies left in the village.
The emigration of industrial companies is reflected in the population figures. In 1841, 4716 people lived in Lochwinnoch. Over the course of the 19th century, the number fell continuously to 3369 in 1881. Between 1951 and 2001 the population increased from 2260 to 2880 inhabitants.
traffic
Lochwinnoch is connected to the trunk road network via the A760 , which joins the A737 directly to the south . As early as the middle of the 19th century, the Glasgow and South Western Railway Lochwinnoch connected to the rail network with its own station on the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway . Today it is served by the Ayrshire Coast Line of First ScotRail . Glasgow International Airport is twelve kilometers to the northeast. Renfrew Airport , located south of Renfrew , was in operation until 1966 .
