Plan of Grindelsberg by Johann Ev. Lamprecht

The Burgstall Grindelsberg , actually the Grindelsberg ramparts , is located in the Gründlsberg district of the municipality of Aspach in the Braunau am Inn district of Upper Austria .

The highest point of the foothills of the Kobernaußerwald near Aspach is the Grindelsberg at 601 meters. According to a legend still handed down in the village, a castle is said to have stood here, but it was then removed and the stones of which were used to build the church in Aspach.

According to the available findings, however, it should not be a medieval castle site, but a prehistoric or early historical rampart. Two now largely filled pits could be interpreted as former cisterns . In the immediate vicinity there is a burial mound necropolis , which is likely to be closely related to the defense system.
