Cameron is the name of a Scottish clan from the Fort William area .

history

The name is derived from a chief of the 14th century described with camsron , which means "crooked nose". In 1370 the Camerons were embroiled in a major clan dispute when they attacked Clan Chattan over a land dispute and defeated the Davidsons and Mackintoshs before the Macphersons , who had withdrawn over disputes with the Davidsons over the order of battle, returned and the Camerons beat. In 1745, Chief Donald Cameron of Lochiel decided to take the side of the awakening Jacobite revolt and thus made a decisive contribution to its development. The battle cry of the Camerons, known as fierce fighters, was Chlanna nan con thigibh a so's gheibh sibh feoil! (Gaelic for "sons of the dog, come here and get your meat!").

The clan's motto is Aonaibh ri cheile ("Let us unite").
