MacGregor ("son of Gregory") is the name of a Scottish clan supposedly descended from the first king of Scotland , Kenneth MacAlpin .
history
The clan became known when it first lost its lands to the Campbells after a power struggle and in 1603 after a cattle robbery from the Colquhouns and a subsequent battle in which 200 Colquhouns and only two MacGregors fell, by King James VI. was partially dissolved by force. When the wearing of the name was officially allowed again in 1775, 826 members of the clan still registered.
The clan's motto is ' S rioghal mo dhream ("My race is royal").
