Menzies is the name of a Scottish clan that comes from the area between Perth and the Great Glen .
history
It was first mentioned in an early form in 1249 when Alexander III. of Scotland appointed Sir Robert de Meyners Lord High Chamberlain . Robert's son Alexander acquired Weem and Aberfeldy and received the baronies of Glendochart and Durisdeer from Robert the Bruce as a reward for his support . In the Jacobite uprisings of 1715 and 1745, the Menzies were clearly on the side of the rebels and so both times were on the side of the losers. The clan seat was Castle Menzies in Weem until 1910, when the direct family line ended . In 1957 it was bought back and restored by the Menzies Clan Society .
The clan's motto is Vill God I zall ("I will, God willing").
