The Forsyth clan ( Scottish Gaelic : Clann Fearsithe ) comes from the Lowlands and is one of the richest Scottish clans .

history

Forsyth (sometimes Forsythe ) is a Gaelic name and means something like 'man of peace'. Members of the clan live in the United Kingdom , Canada , Nova Scotia , United States , Australia , New Zealand, and South Africa . In fact, many more Forsyths live abroad today than remained in the Scottish Fatherland.

In early history, the Forsyths were a Scandinavian royal family whose symbol was the griffin .

However, they are said to have come to the British Isles quite late , namely in 1236. This chronological division would make the Forsyths descendants of Forsach, a north man who settled on the Dordogne River in Aquitaine . From here the Viscomte de Fronsoc accompanied Eleonore from Provence to London to Henry III. to marry. He then lived from 1236 to 1246 at the English court in London. It is believed that his family received land in Northumberland , on the border with Scotland.

Chief

The current Clan Chief is Alistair Forsyth of that Ilk, Baron of Ethie . He lives in Condom in France and has a Highland Cattle Ranch in Western Australia . He is a supporter of the Scottish National Party and was previously a council member in Angus .
