Davidson is the name of a Scottish clan from Badenoch on the upper reaches of the Spey .

history

Named after the first chief, David Dubh von Invernahaven , the clan became part of Clan Chattan , an association of several highland tribes , in the 14th century . When the Camerons attacked the Mackintoshs , a member of Clan Chattan, in 1370, the Mackintoshs called on their allies for help. The Davidsons and Macphersons got into an argument about who could take the place of honor on the right side of the battlefield, and the Macphersons withdrew out of injured honor. The Camerons defeated the rest of the Clans and the Davidsons suffered heavy losses, although the Macphersons later defeated the Camerons. To settle their disputes, a few selected Davidsons and Macphersons met in 1396 to fight each other to the death; a fight the Davidsons lost.

The clan motto is Sapienter si sincere ("Wise if honest").
