Wallace is the name of a Scottish clan originating from Ayrshire and Renfrewshire , where they have been present since the 12th century.

history

The name may come from a Latin word for "Welsh". The best known son of the clan was the Scottish freedom fighter William Wallace , who fought alongside Robert the Bruce against the English in the late 13th and early 14th centuries , ruled Scotland for short and was betrayed in the end. He is also featured in an unofficial Scottish national anthem ( Scots wha hae wi 'Wallace bled).

The motto of the clan is accordingly Pro libertate ("For freedom").
